Are Plug-in Solar Panels Legal in the UK?

What changed?
Current government and Energy Saving Trust guidance confirms that compliant plug-in solar can be bought and self-installed in England, Scotland and Wales. That does not make every marketplace listing suitable: the exact complete system and installation conditions still matter.
The 800W output limit and G98 notification
The limit applies to the inverter AC output supplied to the home, not simply the panel wattage printed on a product listing. Check the current G98 notification process with the relevant distribution network operator and follow the instructions for the exact device.
Check permissions, mounting and wiring first
Renters, flats and shared buildings may need permission from a landlord, freeholder or building manager. Confirm a secure mounting method, suitable socket and cable route, and follow the manufacturer instructions before use.
