Are Plug-in Solar Panels Legal in the UK?
Plug-in solar is a Great Britain launch category, but legality depends on using the right complete system in the right way. The Solar Check is deliberately limited to England, Scotland and Wales.
Short answer
Permitted in Great Britain, subject to the requirements.
The V1 Solar Check covers England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland is not included in this assessment, and every product still needs exact compliant-device evidence before recommendation.
Great Britain scope
This launch version covers England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland is outside the V1 assessment because the regulatory and grid context is different.
The 800 VA output limit
The consumer-facing rule is based on maximum apparent AC output to the mains. Panel DC wattage and inverter AC output must not be confused.
ENA evidence matters
A product page saying ENA compliant is not enough. The exact device and kit configuration need to match a compliant ENA Connect Direct entry.
Permission and wiring still matter
Renters, flats and shared buildings may need permission. A suitable outdoor socket, cable route, mounting method and manufacturer instructions still matter before use.
